Description of this Texas Chainsaw Massacre Movie Poster
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a 1974 American horror film directed and produced by Tobe Hooper, who also wrote the screenplay and music. The film tells the story of a group of five young people who fall into the hands of a family of cannibals in rural Texas.
Shot on a low budget and with unknown actors, the film was criticized by film regulators in many countries, who deemed its violence disturbing, as was some of the film critics of the time. At the box office, it became a surprise hit that still has a large fan base today. This early slasher film left a lasting mark on the horror genre and spawned several sequels and a series of films. Meanwhile, Texas Chain Saw Massacre appears on many critics’ lists of the best and most influential horror films of all time.
In the opening sequence, a news anchor reads reports of grave robbing and violent deaths over the radio, accompanied by flashes of rotting corpses and images of solar prominences.
Five young people (Kirk, Pam, Jerry, Franklin, and his sister Sally) are searching for Sally and Franklin’s grandparents’ house in rural Texas. In the process, they stumble upon a family of former butchers who have degenerated into cannibals and are collecting human and animal remains in their mansion to decorate the house. The family consists of a mentally disturbed man whom the group had previously picked up hitchhiking, a gas station manager who seemed relatively reasonable at first, a childlike giant with changing masks made of human skin called “Leatherface,” who prefers to cut up his victims with a chainsaw, and their grandfather, nicknamed “Grandpa,” who uses a wheelchair.
During the day, Kirk, Pam, Jerry, and Franklin fall victim to the family’s string of murders. The last of the five, Sally, is also captured but manages to escape while trying to retrieve her for slaughter. During her escape, she is pursued by “Leatherface” and the hitchhiker, but the latter is run over and killed by a truck. Wounded and covered in blood, she finally escapes by jumping onto a passing pickup truck. In the film’s final frame, “Leatherface” aimlessly wields his chainsaw as the sun rises over the backdrop.
