Description of this Berliet Metal Sign
Berliet, founded in 1899 by Marius Berliet, is an iconic brand in the French automotive industry. Initially specializing in the manufacture of cars, the company quickly distinguished itself through its technical innovations and reliability. During the First World War, Berliet played a crucial role in producing robust military vehicles, thus consolidating its reputation for excellence. In the 1920s and 1930s, the brand diversified into truck and bus production, becoming a major player in road transport in France and internationally.
The post-war period marked a turning point for Berliet, with the expansion of its commercial vehicle range and an increased presence in foreign markets. The 1960s and 1970s saw Berliet’s heyday, with iconic models such as the GLR and GBC 8 KT used not only in France but also in many former French colonies and beyond. In 1974, Berliet was integrated into the Renault group, but its legacy lives on through enthusiasts and collectors who continue to cherish its vintage vehicles and advertisements.
