Description of this Diamonds Are Forever Poster

Diamonds Are Forever is a 1971 spy film, the seventh in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It is the sixth and final Eon film to star Sean Connery, who took over the role of the fictional MI6 agent James Bond, after declining to reprise the role in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969).

The film is based on the 1956 novel of the same name by Ian Fleming and is the second of four James Bond films directed by Guy Hamilton. In the story, Bond poses as a diamond smuggler to infiltrate a smuggling ring and soon uncovers a plot by his old enemy Ernst Stavro Blofeld to use the diamonds to build a laser weapon in space. Bond must confront his enemy one last time to stop the smuggling and foil Blofeld’s plan to destroy Washington, D.C., and wrest nuclear supremacy from the world. After George Lazenby’s departure from the series, producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli tested other actors, but United Artists wanted Connery back, paying a then-record salary of $1.25 million for him to return. The producers took their cue from Goldfinger; as with that film, Guy Hamilton was hired to direct, and Shirley Bassey sang on the film’s theme song. Filming locations included Las Vegas, California, and Amsterdam. Diamonds Are Forever was a commercial success and received positive reviews, although retrospective critics criticized its camp tone. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Sound.
