Description of this vintage we can do it poster

This vintage poster is a propaganda visual created by J. Howard Miller in 1943 with his famous “We can do it!”. It was published by the Westinghouse Electric factory to give strength and courage to working women during the Second World War. The woman depicted is “Rosie the Riveter”: while retaining her feminine features, she rolls up her sleeves to reveal muscular arms, forcefully stating: “We can do it!” Later, this visual would be taken up by feminists. The feminist reinterpretation was an ideal symbol: a strong and independent woman who does not submit to paternalism, without however denying femininity and glamour, but with a raised middle finger to make it clear that she is not there to joke.
